20/20 Parenting. Recognizing and mitigating early vulnerabilities and risk factors.

Reflections, Experiences, Shared Vision

April 16, 2007

The last month and a half is a blur. March was catch up time after February colds and flu. I so rarely get sick that I find it very difficult. However, it gave me some much needed time to reflect on the direction of 20/20 Parenting and the feedback received from our exploratory meeting in February. March brought the decision to upstep my provisions for community and corporate presentations. Consequently, you will find an updated Presentation - Intro page and some new sub pages: Keynotes - Workshops, Testimonials, Meeting Planners.

I also had a wonderfully encouraging meeting at the Vancouver Foundation regarding my plans for the future forming of the Ryan's Wish Society and eventual Foundation. Ryan's last spoken wish to me was to write a book to help children and youths to avoid using drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, crystal meth robbed him of meeting that goal. So in Ryan's spirit of helping others (and my own) I hope to establish this organization to fund and develop programs focused primarily on early and middle childhood prevention (of risk factors/vulnerabilities, especially those most unrecognized). I have several badly needed services in mind that I believe would go a long way to raising drug-free children.

The Vancouver Foundation expressed interest in providing program development funding once our charity is formed. Through my presentations I hope to attract a few more prospective board members, committee members, and advisors.

Early this month I presented to over 250 grade nines in North Surrey. They were so attentive and appreciative and the feedback from staff was wonderful. It was the first time I shared Ryan's favorite stuffed puppy from early childhood and an amazing story around how I still have it and mended it for Ryan's first after-death birthday January 13, 2003.

Next month I'll be presenting for two elementary PACS meeting in White Rock and for a convention in Terrace!

On top of all this I have been acting as 'selling agent' for a family inheritance home (for sale by owner). Since I have my home/office in this house I will be spending this summer moving after 7 years here...sadly. However, with every loss comes much gain and I'm also looking forward to the change.

I'm sorry to have missed sending out a newsletter last month and being so late this month. I'm back on track and changing the send-out time to mid month.

Wishing you happy May/April Spring changes,

Kerry Jackson
