Inspired Beginnings
After losing my only child, son Ryan, at the age of 26, and a 10 month battle with his crystal meth addiction, I was struck with how many times during his life I had said “If only I had known then what I know now!” Hindsight is 20:20!
During the following two years of grieving and searching for more understanding, I came to realize that as parents we know very little about the many ways children become vulnerable to abusing drugs and alcohol, much less what to do about them for prevention and treatment.
It also became obvious that many vulnerabilities are hidden, “secrets” so to speak:
- Hidden low self esteem (wearing unconscious disguises)
- Hidden physiological decision-making challenges: chemical imbalances or structural damage (misdiagnosed conditions)
- Hidden negative thoughts and beliefs developed due to chronic unresolved health conditions, past losses/traumas, life challenges, family challenges, misunderstandings etc.
- Hidden signs of trouble due to our own human nature/propensity to protect us from unpleasant realities, including societal misconceptions
Recognizing that the reasons for these “secrets” are complex, and inspired by the amazing tool we now have in the internet, I have provided 2020Parenting.com through which you can share your 20:20 prevention hindsight, insight, and foresight!
