Early Recognition: Very Important for a Child’s Success

We all want our children to do well in school. We dream of them standing proud one day in their cap and gown grinning from ear to ear and feeling so proud of themselves. Many who struggle with learning disabilities in their early years of school, with the correct diagnosis and support, can achieve this dream in spite of a tough start.

Much of their success depends on the quick action of both teachers and parents. As a parent, you know your child’s history and current challenges perhaps better than anyone. That is, if you are able to recognise the warning signs.

The longer a child experiences symptoms, even subtle, the greater the risk of them developing maladaptive coping mechanisms that impact on all areas of their lives. The tricky part is in recognizing the mild borderline cases that, left unrecognized and untreated, can result in future drug and alcohol abuse as a means of medicating the years of compounding negative effects.

Obviously, the earlier you address a learning disability the better and the easier, quicker, and more successful the treatment.

We have planned to compile articles for this page that will help you to discover the known and suspected causes (for the earliest prevention), the early signs and symptoms, as well as the later and more established symptoms. Together with other pages on conditions such as ADD/ADHD, Autism, and others you will be able to compare notes to decide which specialists, and health organizations, to take your child to. And you will be better prepared to communicate knowledgably with them.

You will also find, eventually as we develop, articles from specialists describing the diagnostic and treatment methods they use.
