Letters to Kerry

Stories of Victory, Struggle, Tragedy, & Workplace Concerns

November 24, 2006:

This letter comes from a lovely young lady I had the pleasure of getting to know during the Headlines Theatre workshop early this month for “METH”, showing until December 10th in Vancouver, B.C. before going on a province tour. – K

Hi Kerry!

How are you?

Great website! I just wanted to drop you a line to say hello!

The workshop was a great way for me to heal too. I had the impression that everyone there did some healing in some way or another. I hope that by you being there, it helped you understand the things that your son may have faced during his addiction.

Our world was not fun, but we were stuck in something we didn't know how to let go of. The only way to make those changes is to want change. As a person who knew they were on the wrong path, I was able to let go of my addiction. It was hard, I'll admit, but I did make it with the help of my co-workers of course. When I tell my story on stage this Spring I hope that it will save people from trying it. I am really excited about it. I can hardly wait.

You are a strong woman Kerry and my heart is with you. I'll bet Ryan is sooo proud of you for all the hard work you are doing. You sure are something special. I admire your strength, and your courage. I can't imagine how hard it is for a parent to feel helpless, and powerless. I want to say thank you for sharing your story with me. I will never forget you. Let's keep in touch.

Best Wishes,

Claire Kelly

Winnipeg, MB

PS: I asked Claire for information about her play:

No dates as of yet. I am hoping for a spring 2007 production. It will take place here at Manitoba Theatre for Young People. My contact email for work is ckelly@mtyp.ca. The play is called Claire's Room. My play has only been made possible to produce with United Way's support and generosity! Thanks.

Kerry, Have a great day!
